Men can go to either a barber or a hair salon. Hair salons are unisex. Having said that at the hair salon that I go to, you hardly ever see a man and I have gone there regularly for a number of years. I think this is perhaps that it is seen as a female domain.

The term is not gender-specific, and both men and women who cut and style hair professionally can be called barbers.
